About the centre

Udhavi is a centre in The Nigiri Hills in the town of Coonoor, which provides schooling for students with a range of special needs. However, these academic learning programmes are not available to individuals over 18 years old. 

Bottles of Hope employed these individuals by training the students in the assembly process of the solar lamps. The centre's staff and volunteers ensured the safety of those working on the assembly. An electrician was employed to ensure the quality and safety of the lamps. Those working on the assembly of the bottles saw an increase in their hand-eye co-ordination, attention span, self-confidence and self-worth. These are skills which will help in everyday life and future jobs.   

Udhavi was our partner and principle benefactor for Bottles of Hope from 2018-19. To cater to the growing need for special need education, over the summer they have undergone major construction that added additional teaching space onto the centre. We are forever grateful to Udhavi for working with us and we wish them the best for the future.
