solar lamp distributions

  • lady willingdon homes

Our first distribution in Summer 2018 was at Lady Willingdon's Homes, a local elderly housing unit, in the town of Ooty.

It was an incredible experience to visit the Lady Willingdon's Home and meet one of the board members in mid-2019. Hearing the history of the home was impressive, the organisation provided housing to Indians returning from the terrors of the First World War. Lady Willingdon herself has been internationally recognised as an activist who formed loyal groups of women who were committed to the home front war efforts during these troubling times.

The home does amazing work housing elderly citizens in communities, and we will continue to support those efforts and remain in contact moving forward.

  • village distributions

Jehan completed a 40-kilometer trek to reach a remote community that had built their homes from clay and mud within the forest. These villagers were using kerosene lamps made from used brandy bottles with a wick which produce harmful toxins and create dangerous fire hazards. Globally, the use of kerosene lamps kills 1.5 million people a year. In comparison, our Bottles of Hope, gives twice the light of kerosene lamps while emitting none of the harmful toxins.

Since distributing our first solar lamp in 2018 we have positively impacted 500 individuals. We measure our impact with every person receiving a Bottle of Hope filling out a distribution form, this way we can accurately keep track of how many people are impacted by our organisation.

  • SOLAR LAMP REDEVELOPMENT

Bottles of Hope has a new solar lamp! This new design is reusable, has a larger battery and higher LED capacity. This means we are able to impact our beneficiaries more through providing longer and stronger light.

One of the fundamental principles we have at Bottle of Hope is education and advocating for those that face energy deficiencies globally as well as sharing greener solutions for these problems. Over the past couple of years, we have been working with schools to address these concerns, by continuing our commitment to empowerment to encourage their own innovative thinking.

But we want to make our engagement with energy poverty one step further. We want to educate the younger generation on alternative methods of energy and spark their interest in building solutions through green technology.
